Ok so I thought I had to write this post today. I know there are a bagillion (yes, that's a word ;)) posts on Active Rain about popularity. 
What does popularity mean? According to the dictionary....

That reminds me of high school and who is COOL :) I like to be COOL here. Why? Because I like to get to know other agents in other areas & I'd like for them to get to know me. Referrals are also welcomed and I love to send them as well. We've all had the chance to get to know each others' personalities through this site which I think is COOL. You must have some sort of 'popularity' here though to really be able to receive the referrals.
But what else is COOL is this.

Now THAT is COOL. Who doesn't want to be ADMIRED, ACCEPTED OR SOUGHT AFTER? Especially since we are service providers!
It's always nice to come referred. But how awesome is it to be sought after? I recently created a new website for a niche market (pre foreclosures & short sales). I've already met with 2 homeowners this week & have more to meet with soon. They are referring me out to the people they know too. I think that means they accept me as well. I have to do my best to not let them down.
When you provide a service that is beneficial, specialized & helpful you will succeed. Finding solutions to problems is key. Popularity helps get you there quicker.
And remember "What's in it for me?"

Susan.... John's comment has a lot of meaning behind it, especially for AR. Kissing butt? ...and not speaking your true mind, can make enemies. At least this is my opinion.
Lenn makes a great point. Now, that is cool.
Overall, what you talked about makes perfect sense. And you can't tell me that nobody wants to be with the cool crowd, even if they say that they don't, which we seem to hear so many say. If so, why are they blogging to the people on AR then? Just a question. Good post in regards to the referral aspect of things, that must mean that you are cool. ;o)
